Mini cigars and small cigars

Updated November 2026

What counts as a mini cigar?

'Mini cigar' usually means a small machine-made cigar, often sold in tins, that smokes in 10 to 20 minutes. 'Small cigar' and 'little cigar' are often cigarette-sized and sometimes filtered.

Cigarillos

Cigarillos are thin cigars, usually machine-made, larger than little cigars but much smaller than a premium cigar.

Short premium cigars

If you want premium, hand-rolled tobacco in a short smoke, look for small sizes such as the petit corona (about 4½ × 40–42), short robustos, or 'nub' style cigars. Many premium lines also sell tins of small sizes.

Choosing one

Short smokes are a good way to try a blend without committing an hour, and suit a coffee break or a cold evening outdoors. See our cigar sizes chart and the petit corona page.

Common questions

What is the difference between a mini cigar and a cigarillo?

Both are small, usually machine-made cigars; cigarillos are typically a little larger. Neither is the same as a hand-rolled premium cigar.

How long does a mini cigar take to smoke?

Usually about 10 to 20 minutes.
